This is not a religious question that I ask because each of us knows our faith in countless diversity. As well, centuries of wars are still being fought over religion in order to establish which of humankind GOD favors more. So this then leads me to ask: where is Satan and Lucifer, the leader of the fallen angels, in this holocaust? I imagine in good spirits as they observe the limitless human race move violently to declare and/or rescue our essence.
We humankind—at our nativity—receives a gift in the form of free will. This CHOICE allows us to decide on or prefer—and I presume not always reflect on—the impact our transactions may or will have on others. Then there is our own soul to consider: our genuine core. And always there is death and none are given their day or time or reason. So our life story is written in each second that we take a breath without knowing if after that another will follow.
Some say they have seen the after-life and I cannot deny their claims. For what is truth for one is not truth for another. Perhaps that is why we humankind continue to hate what we cannot believe and why wars are fought to force belief on others. We are, after all, human beings searching for truth; but my question is: Whose?
I know loss because growing up I attended the funerals of those who came before me. I touched their ice-cold hands, remembering how they felt to hold when warm. Women wept openly into their silk-thread hankies. Men stood close by to catch those faint of heart. And the true-life of the deceased became visible to each mourner that stood overlooking the coffin. “Pete, do you remember when she…” “Thelma, I remember him saying…” “Did you know she raised those kids…” “He knew how to tell a joke, better than…” “She never said much, so quiet…” “He is in a better place…” “The little tot just didn’t have…”
Death Then—regardless of the reason—was a coming together to acknowledge a future devoid of the essence of our loved one.
Death Today is shape-shifting to resentment and prejudice and religion and mistrust and illegal drugs and refugees and drunk drivers and ideologies and women’s rights and politics and greed and technology and all countries who kill their own and those who steal everything.
Mother Earth has experienced centuries of wars in the names of religion and greed so maybe I should not be so saddened by the shape-shifting we SEE now. However, I am because this war is to kill humankind without any rules of engagement.
So I ask: “Who will be left to touch that ice-cold hand
There are only unsympathetic synonyms listed for the word Destruction. I take for granted this is due to humankind’s experience—throughout time—of the word itself. So, you may ask, why should I care about the WORD DESTRUCTION? It is, isn’t it, just a word for heaven’s sake?
Well, if we’ve been hanging around Mother Earth for any time at all, we’ve experienced destruction to our psyche due to: wars: religion; poverty; hatred; cover-ups; family; hunger; fear; health; greed; death of those we love; power, and our own self-destruction.
It is honestly Destruction by Self that is at the depth of my sorrow for humankind. This loss is the hardest to tolerate—while it happens and forever afterwards. Of course, there are specialists who treat and can help; also if allowed. There is prayer. But, thus far, you and I were not endowed with an ability to save another if they are dedicated to self-destruction.
Save is a word that means to set aside. Perhaps we should set aside the act to save another until we have rescued ourselves.
YES… Actually, “I Am The Good Old Days!” Life then was political; but appeared to work on behalf of the American People. It was women’s voices across clotheslines. Life was onerous work intended to help future generations. Family life included a belief in God that we each venerated without scrutiny. Our teachers knew our parents and endorsed an education for each child in their care. Bullies existed, but were reigned-in by parent-to-parent solutions. We worked (for pay) at any age and did so, not for us, but for the family. No one locked their doors; we had so little to steal (I guess)? We stood and honored the Flag of the United States of America everywhere because we thought it honored the soldiers and our fathers who never returned from war. And, yes, we knew that life would change.
But, I never imagined a social media that opened a window onto the world of all that is human; at least to those of us still free to utilize it. This media requires us to see/hear everyone’s slant and thus we are left to find our own truth between the chatter. Neighbor-to-neighbor we are still United; for survival sake. If this were only true of our elected politicians who want to win; even at the expense of continued existence of the United States of America.
Yet, I never expected that my AMERICAN FREEDOMS would begin to crumble; in lesser, unreported, underground eruptions. My only solace: I did, once, live in the Good Old Days and so I know a freedom when I see one!
Lately, whether I read it, hear it or sense it, questions pop into my mind.
I know to stop this phenomenon I must write my questions down. Here they are:
History illustrates that conflicts over religious belief wound the very premise of what is taught inside its moral value. Why is that? P.S. Has there ever been a war over God?
When did we start naming foreigners Aliens instead of immigrants? Alien to what?
Those despots who use a vulnerable society to carry out their lunacy are heroic for a time. But who catches on first to its downfall: the lunatic or the peoples?
When a mastermind(s) of mass killings (under any guise) reach local to international courts of law they are qualified for an insanity defense. But I ask you, what are their sufferers qualified for?
I think I can safely confirm that evil is authentic; the news media in all its forms confirms this to me. Should we believe this is what our world has become? What about when a child smiles?
I marvel at the education I received, but that was long ago when integrity was the word of the day. I’ve read for years how IT is improving, and measuring the trillions we’ve thrown at it and the names we’ve given it, surely… Is it bureaucratic red tape or freethinking or tolerance for inaction or laissez-faire that redouble drop-out rates?
Playgrounds! I read recently they are too safe for our children and preventing them from experiencing life’s cuts and bruises. Is it because our society feels so insecure that we insulate our children against every aspect of it?
We have an aging society, but my personal harangue on this matter is inconsequential. What is of consequence is the manner in which we are cloaked: aged, seniors, baby boomers; disadvantaged elderly, and users of Medicare and Social Security. This mini-inventory begs the question: Are Older Americans nothing more than a burden on society? Before you answer, remember we too trusted our government to manage the monies we contributed for our future.
“Balance The Budget!” Okay, here are two questions: “Do you, the individual, balance your budget? Should our government be held to the same high standard? I would just state for the record that money does NOT grow on trees around my home and I certainly am not qualified to borrow from China.
Okay, so those who represent us in Washington debate (a good thing really) about raising or not raising taxes. My only, and last question, is: Do you know anyone who pays taxes without a job?
