“What IS The Greater Good?..”

Janet's logo text

The term Greater Good has always fascinated me. Not the term itself, but the intention of those who try to define it; like I am right now.

The word GREATER means: better, superior and bigger. The word GOOD means: blameless, decent and worthy. Some say IT benefits more people than oneself. IT is also defined as that which is better and more correct. These ideals have BIG SHOES to fill as Mother Earth tries to balance our differences.

The words “Greater Good” remind me of the buildup to an orchestra’s crescendo; loud and meaningful and intended. After which humankind go their separate ways, lessening the collective meaning of our shared experience.

So what is the Greater Good? That dear readers, is the intention you give to IT.

“WHAT IS TRUTH?…”

TRUTH – the word means fact, reality, honesty and loyalty… Words that live inside me as part Janet's logo textof who I was, where I came from, who I loved, why I loved and who I am. Those who came before me set the stage I was to step out on in what is known as LIFE.

But these days I wonder whom to trust with my understanding of Humankind on Mother Earth. The Power Brokers: Governments, Media, Movies, Social Media, Prejudice, Education, Killing Fields etc. all vie for My Voice.

So, I don’t know if I’m right about this for you, but for me, like when the swollen rivers rise, I head for higher ground; a place where I remember the sound of My Own Voice.

“A Sense of Place…”

Janet's logo textRecently—watching the evening news—I wondered where is that sense of place I knew so well as a child. The place of family and shelter and protection until that one day at school we were taught how to hide beneath our wooden desks warning The Russians Are Coming! That did not pan out but it did, for the first time, educate me to know that my sense of place had just changed forever.

Also, in those days, we were convinced that, if we chose to, we could dig our way down and find China. Given I was reading a book about China at the time I was more interested in this effort than my two brothers. Their sense of place at the time was building their forts using old wooden boxes and scrap paraphernalia they found as they played all over the neighborhood. Many years later I was fortunate enough to see China: after a very long plane ride. As the drone of the plane flew on I smiled to myself thinking back to the broken wooden spatula my mother encouraged me to use if I was serious about digging my way to another sense of place.

So I ask: On Our Earth Today is there A SENSE OF PLACE anywhere? Anger and frustration and killing fields and lines not to cross and on and on… I need say no more.

So I pose this: If we have forgotten or don’t think about and don’t care about our sense of place then we Humankind are no longer writing the Life Stories of the Individual or Earth itself.

Maybe we should look to Mother Nature’s trees and the animals and the oceans and the land  because they are indeed grounded in A Sense of Place.

Humankind: Can We Hear the “Hymn of the Universe?”

pierre

Introduction: I do not presume to describe for you the “Hymn of the Universe” by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin {1881-1955}. A French philosopher and Jesuit priest who trained as a paleontologist and geologist (pictured).

Visitor: Why should I care about a hymn or a dead French philosopher?

JLM’S Garden: “These are great questions and the answer below may surprise you!”

Reflections:

Words: Hymn is a chant or mantra. The universe is creation or life. Humankind is a word meaning human race or civilization.

When I look out at Mother Earth I hear no hymn, only the noise that is chaos and insurrection.

Yet, when I look into the Cosmos I sense the energy that is the potential of humankind.

In today’s technological world we can absorb—in most languages—the intention of the writings in the “Hymn of the Universe” or any other treatise we choose to wonder about. Well, except for our sisters and brothers denied admittance to evolution that only consciousness can bring.

Answer:  In his writings on “Planetary Mind and Our Spiritual Evolution” our same French philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin says this: “The coming stage of evolution won’t be driven by physical adaptation but by human consciousness, creativity, and spirit.

“What Is Intention Anyway?…”

intention

Intention is a word that means purpose and there are other synonyms—but they do not belong in this blog. You’ll see why.

Prophecy is a prediction made under divine influence and direction: something a lot like the word intention; or is it? Well here comes the rub as far as I’m concerned.

From Mother Earth’s first sunlight we, humankind, have careworn our world using one word: intention. One century after another we’ve governed the play calls by making use of kings, rooks, bishops, queens, knights and pawns—utilizing our rank and file—to checkmate Earth’s Chessboard christened rationale.

There is in the word itself to intend. So do I plant my intentions? You bet! And, guess what it revealed: CAUTION!

The next time we intend a thought—silent or spoken—become vigilant. It just might determine what intention will be fulfilled. And it is at that exact moment humankind will look skyward to the cosmos or downward to the destruction of Mother Earth.

“Destruction: By Self or By…”

Janet's project 1 copyThere are only unsympathetic synonyms listed for the word Destruction. I take for granted this is due to humankind’s experience—throughout time—of the word itself. So, you may ask, why should I care about the WORD DESTRUCTION? It is, isn’t it, just a word for heaven’s sake?

Well, if we’ve been hanging around Mother Earth for any time at all, we’ve experienced destruction to our psyche due to: wars: religion; poverty; hatred; cover-ups; family; hunger; fear; health; greed; death of those we love; power, and our own self-destruction.

It is honestly Destruction by Self that is at the depth of my sorrow for humankind. This loss is the hardest to tolerate—while it happens and forever afterwards. Of course, there are specialists who treat and can help; also if allowed. There is prayer. But, thus far, you and I were not endowed with an ability to save another if they are dedicated to self-destruction.

Save is a word that means to set aside. Perhaps we should set aside the act to save another until we have rescued ourselves.

“Evolve or Shape-Shift Through Life…”

Janet's logo text

Evolve is a word that means to make progress or go forward or change. Humankind—dare I imply Mother Earth herself—has endowed humanity with Earth Pathways we are free to follow or to take no notice of. But, as usual, danger and/or reward are always just around that next change in direction.

As I write this I’m remembering the Earth Pathways that shaped my humankind progress. Many evolved over time; the pathways were a climb; a bit bumpy, yet ultimately smoothed out. Others, well others were shape-shifted without my permission; even life-threatening. So, how might my experiences help you?

Well—first and foremost—at all times when stepping onto Earth’s Pathways be fully aware of your intention for doing so. Yet, intention is never absolutely alone on whatever pathway we ultimately choose. That unseen shape-shifter—devoid of our vigilance—obscures the light that is our invitation to try again.

“INTENTION…”

typewriter_legswtypewriter_sample_img_2INTENTION/Synonyms: Purpose; Aim; Intent; Objective. Also, like all words, Intention has an antonym: Withhold.

I’ve wondered about the word Intention since I first heard it spoken. The word itself has an element of mystery and neutrality. Yet, it is anything but!

For example: WHAT IF there were an outcome attached to each intention we think or speak; being aware of it or not?

Mother Earth, our Sisters and Brothers, the Milky Way Galaxy and all intentions beyond our understanding of time and space… matter! We have Intention or Withhold: which are we?

“BUDDING PROMISE…”

Promise means to pledge, assure, vow and guarantee. But life, it seems, cannot pledge, assure, vow nor guarantee anything to anyone. I know this instinctively; but, until it involves the extinction of the Budding Promise of a child… Well, it is then I feel the bereavement at a depth that is my soul.

At the moment we hear a child belittled; know of sexual abuse; wonder why bullies are created; children murdered or inside that same death: enslaved. This is both the loss of a child’s soul and the passing away of Budding Promise to the heart that is Mother Earth.

How might our world have “looked” had every Budding Promise been free to seek themselves and save us?

“EARTH & TOMORROW”

Us, you know the ones, We the People. Are we courageous enough to consider, let alone watch, the devastation that is our world? Damage caused by Mother Nature; Human Nature; Human Governments; Human Intolerance; Human Indifference, and Human Lack of Knowledge.

Regardless of the reason(s), We the People are on this Earth together—what happens to my sisters and brothers happens to me. Maybe not right now and maybe not tomorrow; but, I fool myself not… It is constructing!

Chaos and instability and hatred and prejudice and power-hunger eat away at the core that is Mankind’s Humanity. Earth, being a living thing, surely must notice. Tomorrow… Well that is never guaranteed.
